Patna (Bihar) [भारत]July 16 (ANI): JDU leader Rajeev Ranjan on Thursday spoke on the recent high-profile criminal cases in Bihar. He stressed that the state government and police are taking strict action against all those involved in the recent incidents of violence.

Ranjan highlighted the arrests made in the Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) officer murder case and the action taken against the suspects in the murder of activist Bunty Yadav.

JDU’s statement in MVI officer murder case

Speaking to ANI about the MVI officer case, in which a railway employee was allegedly murdered as part of a conspiracy and disguised as a robbery, Ranjan said such an incident was unprecedented for Bihar. He emphasized that the police are taking this matter seriously. He said, “Certainly such incidents have not happened before in Bihar. And some incidents happened in different parts of the country, but this incident is undoubtedly shocking for Bihar. Bihar Police has taken the whole matter very seriously, and MVI, who hatched the conspiracy along with her lover.”

Emphasizing the action taken in the case, the JDU leader said the accused, including the victim’s wife, the alleged shooter and her boyfriend, have been arrested and further action will be taken if additional facts emerge during the investigation. He said, “Savita Kumari, her shooter and her lover, have all been arrested; the investigation is ongoing, and if any more facts related to this come to light, further arrests and other action can be taken accordingly.”

Police action on Bunty Yadav murder case

The JDU leader further spoke on the recent murder of activist Bunty Yadav and confirmed that the Patna Police has taken strict action against both the main suspect and the officers responsible for dereliction of duty. He said, “See, it was a brutal murder, and the police have also prima facie admitted lapses somewhere, and that is why disciplinary action was also taken against four officers and staff. Now the main accused, who was wanted by the Patna Police, had to open fire in self-defence and the criminal has been killed.”

Reiterating the government’s stance against the crime, he said, “All facts are being investigated, and whoever is linked to this, no one will be spared.”

Three arrested in railway employee murder case

Meanwhile, Bihar Police arrested three people, including his wife and her alleged lover, for conspiring to murder a railway employee after he was shot at in the Jansadharan Express near Badlaghat in Katihar railway district last month. Police said, “Ajit Kumar confessed that Devkumar Gunjan was an obstacle in his and Samita’s love affair. As part of a pre-planned conspiracy, Ajit and Samita hired a contract killer, Dheeraj, to shoot Devkumar Gunjan while he was in a train. The victim died during treatment.”

According to a release issued by the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP), Railways, Katihar, Devkumar Gunjan, an electricity department employee posted in Jamui, was on his way to meet his wife, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Samita Kumari, posted in Supaul, when he was attacked in the train. Following the incident, Katihar SP, Railways formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of Barauni Railway Sub-Divisional Police Officer to investigate the matter. The investigation was being continuously monitored by senior officials.

Main accused killed in Bunty Yadav case

On the other hand, on Thursday, amid the ongoing political heat in Bihar over the kidnapping and murder of 25-year-old Bunty Yadav, Patna Police shot and injured the main accused Ravish alias Basia in an encounter. The case, which involves a horrific timeline of kidnapping, torture and subsequent police encounter, has exposed deep weaknesses in local law enforcement.

According to the police, the incident began on July 6 when Bunty Yadav was allegedly abducted from the busy Karbigahiya/Patna Junction area. Although Yadav’s family informed the authorities, they alleged that prompt action was not taken during the initial hours after the abduction.

Five days after the kidnapping, the investigation took a serious turn when Yadav’s body was recovered from Athmalgola area. There were marks of serious physical injuries on the body. Initial post-mortem reports and preliminary investigations revealed a disturbing level of violence. Yadav was subjected to brutal physical torture before his death. Reports indicate that a corrosive substance, believed to be acid, was used on the victim. The criminals allegedly attempted to mutilate the victim to erase his identity before dumping the body.

Responding to the growing criticism, the Patna Police administration says that the matter has been successfully resolved. Authorities insisted that the murder was the result of a personal, financially motivated criminal dispute, not a politically connected crime. Officials said active raids are still underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects linked to the murder conspiracy. (ANI)
