Jana Nayagan Release Date Delayed? CBFC Issues New Changes to Vijay’s Film

After months of uncertainty, Vijay’s much-awaited political drama Jana Nayagan has moved a step closer to release. The latest development suggests that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has put out another set of changes for the filmmakers. The producers have meanwhile clarified that the film has still not received its final censor certificate.

Producer Confirms Viral CBFC Certificate Is Fake

Speaking to media outlets, the makers of Jana Nayagan confirmed that the censor certificate circulating online is fabricated and should not be treated as official.

According to the production team, the CBFC has instead shared a fresh list of changes and revisions that need to be implemented before the board grants the final certificate. The producer has reiterated that the certification process is still underway and requested fans not to believe unverified documents shared on social media.

Jana Nayagan Release Date Delayed

Sources familiar with the certification process say the CBFC has completed another round of review and has communicated a fresh set of required edits to the filmmakers.

The makers are now expected to complete these revisions and submit the updated version before the CBFC issues the final certification. While reports suggest Jana Nayagan is likely to get an ‘A’ certificate, the official status will only become clear once the final certificate is formally issued.

Why Has Jana Nayagan Been Delayed?

It was originally set for a theatrical release on January 9, 2026, but over the last few months it ran into a bunch of hurdles. The certification got messy after objections came up following the first screening, and then the film was sent to the CBFC’s Revising Committee. The slowdown didn’t stop there, it later even spilled into legal proceedings at the Madras High Court, before the certification process could continue.

When Will Jana Nayagan Release?

No official date has been shared by the producers as of now. Still, industry chatter points toward a late July 2026 release with July 24 or July 31 being the names that keep coming up. Those possibilities however depend on the certification being wrapped up on time and until the CBFC provides final clearance.

Jana Nayagan, helmed by H. Vinoth, is carrying huge expectations. It’s commonly viewed as Vijay’s final film before he fully transitions to politics. During the investigation,  police revealed that nearly 1.2 crore people watched the pirated version, which investigators say was copied from an editing suite by a freelance editor and uploaded to Google Drive before spreading to piracy platforms. Because the clearance process has dragged on, the anticipation has only grown with fans waiting closely for an official release update.
