Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s much-awaited action thriller Alpha, the first female-led installment within the YRF Spy Universe is climbing at the box office on its first Saturday. It opened with a decent start on Friday, but early Day 2 trends suggest that the film is catching the weekend.
As per early estimates from the trade tracker Sacnilk, Alpha has made about ₹1.27 crore net in India by Saturday afternoon, which brings its total India net collection to roughly ₹10.52 crore. Since these figures are based on live tracking, the final Day 2 numbers are expected to increase significantly after evening and night shows conclude.
Alpha Box Office Collection Day 2 (Early Estimates)
- Day 1 (Friday): ₹9.25 crore (India Net)
- Day 2 (Saturday): ₹1.27 crore (live estimates)
- Total India Net: ₹10.52 crore
- India Gross: ₹12.60 crore
- Worldwide Gross (after Day 1): Around ₹16 crore
Weekend Growth Will Decide Alpha’s Box Office Run
Trade analysts believe Saturday evening and Sunday collections will be crucial for the Shiv Rawail directorial. While the film opened below the benchmark set by previous YRF Spy Universe films, multiplex audiences have shown better traction over the weekend.
Released on July 3, Alpha stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and R. Madhavan. The movie got mixed reactions from critics and the crowd, where people mostly leaned on the action sequences and the action shown by Alia Bhatt with Sharvari. At the same time, the complaints have been mostly about the screenplay and how the narrative feels a bit routine. A few reviews also pointed out the very talked about cameo from Hrithik Roshan as it was the highlight for many.
Can it Bounce Back Over the Weekend?
Even if the opening was slower than expected, Alpha still has a chance to nudge up its box office numbers through the weekend. Saturday evening and Sunday collections usually make up a big slice of the opening weekend money, especially when we’re talking about a big budget action entertainer type film.
Whether it keeps running in theatres, it will mostly depend on the kind of long term audience buzz it manages to hold onto and how steady it stays through the weekdays once the weekend fades.
