According to the popular story, Salbeg was a great devotee of Lord Jagannath but because he was a Muslim, he could not go to the temple. After the death of Salbeg, when the chariot of Lord Jagannath passed in front of his house, it stopped there. Then everyone started cheering for Salbeg and the chariot moved forward. Even today, the chariot of Lord Jagannath stops for some time in front of the tomb of Salbeg.
