That WhatsApp message that made everyone cry
BBC journalist Valentina Oropeza said, ‘On Wednesday evening, I received a WhatsApp audio message from my sister Veronica. His nervous voice could be heard in the message. She was saying that the house was shaking badly and the situation was very scary. After this his call did not go through for hours. The family felt that perhaps he was no longer safe. Then after several hours suddenly his voice was heard again. He said, ‘I and mother have survived, but it was thought that perhaps they would not survive.’
Venezuelan capital plunged into darkness
Immediately after the earthquake, electricity was lost in the entire capital Caracas and major states like Miranda and the entire area was plunged into darkness. Keeping security in mind, metro and train services have also been completely stopped. The tremors of the earthquake were so strong that the main water pipelines laid under the ground burst. Due to which the streets of the western part of Caracas were filled with knee-deep water and vehicles started sinking. Apart from this, to avoid gas leakage or any major explosion due to the debris, Home Minister Diosdado Cabello has also temporarily stopped the gas supply in the affected areas.
