It has been rainy in the past months… In this village of UP, the lives of one lakh people are still dependent on boats.

More than one lakh people have been living on the banks of Sharda river in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh. It becomes difficult for the people living here to reach the district headquarters. Because there are two options to go from the village to the district headquarters. One is to travel through the bridge built over the Sharda river or the other is to travel by road via Palia town of Kheri district, but the road route is quite long. The path of the bridge is less. That’s why people prefer to go by bridge instead of road.

In such a situation, the pontoon bridge built over the Sharda River is very important for the population here for commuting, but in view of the danger of floods every year. This bridge is removed, causing problems for the people living on the banks of Sharda river. Because they have to travel a long distance or take the help of boat. Every year this bridge is removed on 15th June and opened on 15th October but this time, leave alone October, even November is about to pass but the bridge has not been made smooth again.

forced to cross the river by boat

Due to non-reopening of the pontoon bridge, people are forced to cross the river by boat. The bridge, which was closed in view of the danger of flood during the rainy season, has not been reopened even till winter arrives. Although approval has been given to build a permanent bridge in place of the pontoon bridge for the population living on the banks of the Sharda River, still the problems of the people of this area are not ending.

Water level of Sharda river is becoming a hindrance

Now in such a situation the question arises that for how long will the people of Trans Sharda area continue to use boats to cross the Sharda river. However, preparations are being made to reopen the Pantoon Bridge from the fixed date of reopening of the bridge i.e. 15th October. Pantoons have also been prepared for this, but the increased water level in the Sharda river is creating a problem, due to which there is difficulty in restarting it.
