Is this ‘Nari Vandana’? Rahul Targets BJP Over ‘Pallu’ Remark, Party Rubbishes as ‘Fragment of Imagination’

Rahul Gandhi has targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party over Gujarat BJP Chief Jagdish Vishwakarma’s ‘Pallu’ remark against Congress MP from Banaskantha, Geniben Thakor.

Terming Vishwakarma’s statement as “indecent”, Rahul said the mask of “Nari Vandana” has come off, adding that this is not just shameful, it’s the true face of “BJP Manuvadi, anti-woman ideology”. However, the BJP rubbishes Rahul’s claims as a fragment of his imagination.

Why Controversy Erupted Over Gujarat BJP Chief’s Remark

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state President Jagdish Vishwakarma, while addressing party workers at the Vijay Vishwas Sammelan held at Chadotar in Palanpur, made a controversial remark against Geniben Thakor.

He said, “The sisters of Banas will never forget the insult you have inflicted on 70 crore women of the country under the Nari Vandana Act. In the coming days, our mothers and sisters will give a befitting reply to it and snatch your seats from your stronghold and the pallu of your saree.”

This comes after the failure of the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on April 17, 2026. The government introduced this bill to fast-track the 2023 reservation, aiming to implement the 33% quota by the 2029 General Elections without waiting for a fresh Census.

‘Distorted Mindset’ – Rahul Gandhi Hits Back

Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP, accusing the party of harbouring a “distorted mindset”. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) said, “The BJP President of Gujarat has made an indecent remark against our female MP Geniben Thakor. The mask of “Nari Vandana” has come off.”

“This is not just shameful-it’s the true face of BJP’s Manuvadi, anti-woman ideology,” he added.

“Is this BJP’s “Nari Vandana”? Will this empower women? Will this grant rights?” he asked.

“Women who challenge power are intolerable to them- their distorted mindset comes to the fore in an instant. And as for the Prime Minister, he’s already fled Parliament in a panic from the questions by Congress’s female MPs,” Rahul said.

PM Modi himself says, “A woman forgets everything, but never her insult” – yet BJP has forgotten this itself, he added.

“The anti-woman BJP should remember this-women of Gujarat, along with women across all of Hindustan, will deliver a fitting slap in response to every insult,” Rahul Gandhi concluded.
