Irumudi is continuing its extraordinary run at the Telugu States box office and has now entered a rather interesting comparison with some of the biggest blockbusters. The film’s second Friday numbers are reportedly around 12 crore, putting it just behind RRR’s 15 crore mark.
The bigger surprise is where Irumudi stands among tollywood’s biggies. Baahubali 2 recorded around 10.5 crore on its second Friday, while Pushpa 2 and Kalki 2898 AD managed approximately 9 crore and 7 crore respectively.
That puts Irumudi ahead of several heavyweight films and shows the kind of momentum Ravi Teja’s film has managed to sustain into its second week. This is not just about a strong opening anymore, as the film is continuing to pull audiences after the first weekend.
Irumudi opened to a strong response and quickly turned into a box office sensation in the Telugu States. We earlier reported that the film collected around 50 crore gross in the Telugu States over its opening weekend, with almost every major centre witnessing exceptional occupancy.
The film also achieved breakeven remarkably quickly, with its 20 crore theatrical recovery target reportedly recovered within just two days. Its first weekend worldwide gross was estimated at 75 crore, making it Ravi Teja’s biggest first weekend grosser.
What makes the current trend even more impressive is that Irumudi has remained strong despite the arrival of Yash’s Toxic. The positive word of mouth, family emotions and devotional Ayyappa angle surrounding Ayyappa have clearly worked in the film’s favour.
Now the second Friday number has added another feather to Irumudi’s already remarkable run. With the film racing towards the 200 crore worldwide mark, the big question is whether this momentum can take Ravi Teja’s biggest comeback story into an even bigger league.
