Christian Walton, the goalkeeper for Ipswich Town, believes his team has the potential to give Manchester City a tough match in their upcoming Premier League encounter.
Speaking ahead of the game at the Etihad Stadium, Walton emphasized that Ipswich will approach the match with full confidence.
Ipswich has made a strong return to the top league, but they face a significant challenge against one of the league’s top teams. Walton stated that his squad is ready to test themselves against one of English football’s strongest sides.
In a press conference, Walton said, “We are confident that Manchester City will face a good Ipswich team. We need to go there with complete self-assurance. The entire team is eager to play. Whoever is selected will be ready to perform at their best and fulfill their responsibilities. This is a different kind of challenge-one where you want to test yourself. We can perform well and trouble Manchester City.”
Manchester City is currently under scrutiny for allegedly breaching financial regulations 114 times. The club has appealed against these findings, but the controversy continues to generate discussion.
Last weekend, City showcased their abilities with a 3-0 victory against Liverpool at Anfield, despite facing intense reactions from the crowd. However, they suffered a 4-2 defeat at home against Paris Saint-Germain in an exciting match on Wednesday.
Walton assured that the ongoing controversy surrounding City would not impact Ipswich’s preparations, as the team is focused solely on the football challenge ahead.
He remarked, “We are ignoring this controversy. It does not affect our game, nor will it affect them. We are going to face a good Manchester City team, and they will be up against a strong Ipswich team. To be honest, it doesn’t matter to us.”
The goalkeeper noted that the dressing room’s focus remains firmly on the match rather than discussions about City’s financial issues. Ipswich has secured three wins in the Premier League so far and aims to build on their strong start against Enzo Maresca’s team.
