Delhi Capitals (DC) have appointed Sri Lankan legend Chaminda Vaas as their bowling coach ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, further strengthening their revamped coaching setup.
The franchise announced the appointment on social media on Saturday.
“World Cup winner and Sri Lanka’s best. Welcome to Tiger Territory, coach,” Delhi Capitals wrote in a post on X.
Vaas is among Sri Lanka’s most celebrated bowlers, having enjoyed an illustrious international career. He is the country’s third-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, with 355 wickets, and ranks second in Sri Lanka’s men’s ODI wicket-taking charts, with 400 scalps. He also scored 3,089 runs in 111 Tests and 2,025 runs in 322 ODIs for his country.
Vaas joins a revamped Delhi Capitals coaching staff led by head coach Sourav Ganguly. The franchise recently appointed former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as assistant and batting coach ahead of IPL 2027. Vaas replaces Munaf Patel, who served as the team’s bowling coach over the previous two seasons.
Yuvraj’s appointment was announced on Tuesday, with the former India international expressing excitement about taking on a coaching role with the franchise.
“I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches. Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting journey for me, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success,” Yuvraj said, according to a Delhi Capitals press release.
With Vaas and Yuvraj joining the coaching group, Delhi Capitals will look to make the most of their revamped support staff as they prepare for the IPL 2027 season.
