IPS officer Kailash Makwana has been made the new DGP of Madhya Pradesh. Makwana will be the 32nd DGP of the state. Presently Makwana is the Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation. According to the order, Makwana will take charge as the new police chief of the state on December 1, 2024. Current DGP Sudhir Saxena is retiring on 30 November 2024. Sudhir Saxena was appointed DGP on 4 March 2020. After his tenure, this responsibility has now been entrusted to Makwana. Kailash Makwana will retire on 31 December 2025.
Kailash Makwana is counted among the smart officers. Makwana is a 1989 batch IPS officer. Makwana was the DG of Lokayukta during the tenure of Shivraj government. However, he remained in this post only for six months. In fact, Makwana had expedited action against corruption as soon as he became DG in Lokayukta. He opened the files of many pending investigations lying in cold storage and started the investigation. The file of Mahakal Lok was also opened during Makwana’s tenure.
Transferred seven times in three and a half years
Kailash Makwana has also seen a time when people were shifted from here to there in a short time. Kailash Makwana was transferred seven times in three and a half years. He was shifted from here to there thrice during the Kamal Nath government.

Makwana was made the Director General in the special police establishment Lokayukta in the year 2022. Meanwhile, the technical cell under the then Lokayukta started investigating the Mahakal Lok Corridor. But the government showed displeasure on Kailash Makwana. He was removed and made the chairman of Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation. Then Shivraj’s OSD Yogesh Chaudhary was posted as ADG Special Police Establishment Lokayukta, then Makwana’s ACR (confidential character list) was reduced.
He had appealed to the Madhya Pradesh government 9 months ago to improve his ACR. While sending a representation, he had told the government that his ACR was spoiled during the six months of his stay as DG in the Lokayukta organization. The government should take appropriate decision on the maliciously tampered ACR, on which Mohan government had rectified Makwana’s ACR.
There was a panel of 3 names, Makwana won
9 names were sent by Madhya Pradesh government for DGP. A panel of 3 names was prepared in the meeting held last Thursday in Delhi. Among these, the name of 1988 batch IPS Kailash Makwana was at number one. After this, the names of 1988 batch IPS and DG Home Guard Arvind Kumar and 1989 batch IPS and DG EOW Ajay Sharma were included.
