Sanju Samson and Heinrich Klaasen got involved in a heated spat and needed to be separated by teammates in the IPL 2026 match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday (May 18).
Klaasen was stumped in the IPL for the first time, and soon after, the duo got involved in a war of words.
The Stumping and Spat
The turning point came when Noor Ahmad bowled a sharp googly. Klaasen stepped forward, missed, and his back foot lifted momentarily. Samson, with lightning reflexes reminiscent of MS Dhoni, whipped off the bails in a flash. The third umpire confirmed the stumping as Klaasen was out for 47.
As Klaasen walked back frustrated, Samson appeared to make a comment. Klaasen turned aggressive, exchanging sharp words with the CSK skipper. Teammates from both sides rushed in to separate the players. No physical contact occurred, but the heated verbal exchange highlighted the intense on-field rivalry. Noor Ahmad took Samson away from the scuffle while Klaasen was shown the dugout by Anshul Kamboj.
The umpires had a talk with Samson, who put his case in front of the officials, which looks like only a momentary heat between the two players.
CSK vs SRH: Orange Army stamp Playoff Spot
In a high-stakes IPL 2026 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 18, Chennai Super Kings hosted Sunrisers Hyderabad. CSK, fighting for playoff survival, elected to bat first and posted 180/7. Sanju Samson, now with CSK as wicketkeeper-batter, scored a quick 27 before falling to Pat Cummins.
SRH’s chase was powered by Ishan Kishan’s fifty and Heinrich Klaasen’s aggressive 47 off 26 balls. The Orange Army won the match by 5 wickets to qualify for the playoffs, while CSK are on the verge of elimination.
