IPL 2025: A decision of Kavya Maran increased the tension of IPL owners, created a big problem

While issuing the rules for IPL 2025, BCCI had fixed October 31 as the last date for releasing the retention list. Now only 4 days are left and no franchise has revealed the names of their retained players. It is mandatory to inform them about this before the deadline is over. Meanwhile, a big problem has arisen in front of Sunrisers Hyderabad due to its owner Kavya Maran. They are facing difficulties in making their retention list. You must be wondering what Kavya Maran did that other teams are in tension. Let us tell you.

This decision of Kavya Maran increased the difficulty

Sunrisers Hyderabad team can retain Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen and Abhishek Sharma this time. ESPNcricinfo had recently reported that Kavya Maran is ready to give 23 crores to Klaasen, 18 crores to Cummins and 14 crores to Abhishek for this. Let us tell you that BCCI has kept a cap of Rs 18 crore for first retention. This means that Klaasen can be given Rs 5 crore more than the first retention cap. With this report coming out, the problems of other franchises have increased. Now Indian players are also demanding a higher price to be retained like Klaasen. For this reason, there is a delay in releasing the retention list.

Demand is being made according to market value

The Indian Express, quoting a franchise official in its report, has revealed that there has been a sudden change in the attitude of the players after the amount of money Klaasen received in lieu of retention came to light. They have realized that there is no compulsion to follow the retention slab. That’s why he is first ascertaining his market value. Then we are talking about retention with our existing franchisees.

Not only this, he has also started talks with other franchises, so that he can get maximum price. Indian players know that some franchises like Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants are looking for a captain. Therefore, she can bid heavily on India’s star players in the mega auction. In such a situation, if any star player comes in the auction then it may rain money on him.

What is the rule of retention?

All franchises can now retain a total of 6 players from their existing squad. Out of these, only 5 players (Indian and foreign) can be capped, while maximum 2 players can be uncapped. Also, it will depend on the franchise as to how it wants to retain those 6 players.

If the franchise wants, it can retain all the 6 players directly or can choose the option of Right to Match (RTM) in the mega auction. Or you can retain some and buy the rest with right to match. For the first retention, Rs 18 crores will have to be paid, for the second one Rs 14 crores and for the third retention Rs 11 crores will have to be paid. Apart from this, if the fourth player is to be retained then Rs 18 crores will have to be paid and for the fifth player Rs 14 crores will have to be paid.
