On International Yoga Day in Ambikapur, Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai performed mass yoga practice and described yoga as the basis of healthy life, mental balance and nation building.
Raipur. On the occasion of 12th International Yoga Day, Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai participated in the state level mass yoga practice program organized at PG College grounds in Ambikapur. During this, thousands of citizens, students, women, youth, public representatives and officials practiced yoga with him.
While wishing the people of the state on International Yoga Day, the Chief Minister said that Yoga is a priceless heritage of India’s ancient sage tradition. Today it is showing the direction of a healthy, balanced and peaceful life to the whole world. He said that Yoga is not just a physical activity, but it is a lifestyle that establishes balance between body, mind and soul, which provides confidence, discipline, positive thinking and mental strength to the person.
Told the theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Age’ as the need of the hour
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that this year the theme of International Yoga Day “Yoga for Healthy Age” is extremely relevant in the present circumstances. Amidst the changing lifestyle, increasing stress and various health problems, Yoga has become a simple and effective means of health protection for people of every age group.
He said that regular yoga practice keeps a person physically active, mentally aware and emotionally balanced. Only healthy citizens can build healthy families, society and developed nation. Therefore, it is important not to limit yoga to just one day and make it a part of daily life.
Yoga got global recognition due to the efforts of Prime Minister Modi
The Chief Minister said that due to the leadership and continuous efforts of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Yoga has got a new recognition at the global level. The resolution presented by India in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 received widespread support in record time, confirming the acceptance of Yoga across the world. He said that the enthusiasm and participation with which International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the world today on 21st June is a testimony to India’s cultural heritage and global leadership potential.
Yoga provides better health and mental balance
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that Yoga is such an effective practice of health and wellness, which proves beneficial at every stage of life. Yoga makes the body healthy, mind calm and thoughts positive. He said that yoga is playing an important role in the prevention of lifestyle related problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, stress, insomnia and obesity. Modern medical science is also now accepting yoga as an important basis for better health.
Yoga is connected to Maharishi Patanjali and Indian tradition
Referring to the Indian spiritual and cultural tradition, the Chief Minister said that Maharishi Patanjali gave a systematic and scientific form to Yoga. Remembering Lord Shiva as Adiyogi, he said that Yoga has been an integral part of Indian culture and life for centuries. He said that Lord Shri Krishna also showed the way to make human life balanced and purposeful by giving the message of Karmayoga, Gyanyoga and Bhaktiyoga through Shrimadbhagwadgita.
Yoga education and research will get a boost in Chhattisgarh
The Chief Minister said that the state government is continuously working for the expansion and institutional development of Yoga. In this direction, the proposal to bring the subject of Yoga from the Social Welfare Department to the Medical Education Department has been approved. He said that Yoga is an important part of AYUSH system and this decision will give new impetus to Yoga education, training, research and public awareness activities. The government aims to take Yoga to every village, school, college and every section of the society, so that healthy lifestyle can be made a mass movement.
Appeal to youth and students to adopt yoga
Chief Minister Shri Sai urged children and youth to include yoga in their daily routine. He said that the objective of promoting yoga in schools is not only for physical health but also to develop concentration, self-confidence, discipline and positive thinking among the students. He said that those who have not yet joined Yoga, they should start it from today, because no time is too late to bring positive changes in life.
Remembered the contribution of late Roopnarayan Sinha
Paying tribute to late Roopnarayan Sinha, former chairman of Chhattisgarh Yoga Commission, the Chief Minister said that his contribution in the promotion of yoga in the state will always be remembered. He said that taking Yoga to every home would be a true tribute to him. Praising the efforts of Chhattisgarh Yoga Commission, the Chief Minister said that the Commission is playing an important role in promoting healthy lifestyle in the state.
Emphasis also given on education and future of tribal youth
During his address, the Chief Minister also mentioned the commitment of the state government towards the education and future of the tribal youth. He informed that the number of seats in the Tribal Youth Hostel located in Delhi has been increased from 50 to 200. He said that this initiative has started showing positive results and recently 13 youth from the tribal category have succeeded in the UPSC preliminary examination. This is a matter of pride for the entire state. The state government is preparing the youth for future leadership by providing them better opportunities, resources and guidance.
Health Minister also told the importance of yoga
Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said that Brahmamuhurta has special significance in Indian culture and practicing yoga at this time is considered most beneficial. He said that Yoga is an ancient heritage of India, which has gained new prestige at the international level due to the efforts of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
