Everest Day: Every year the whole world celebrates 29th May as Everest Day. Many people have conquered the world’s highest peak Mount Everest till date. But, there is only one example of a cricketer doing this. Adam Parore is the only cricketer to have conquered Mount Everest, that is, to climb it. This New Zealand wicketkeeper batsman had created history by climbing Mount Everest in 2002, 9 years after retiring from international cricket. Adam Parore climbed Mount Everest in 2011.

When did Adam Parore climb Everest?

The height of Mount Everest is 8,848 meters. Many people got success in conquering this height and some people even lost their lives. Adam Parore also measured the height of Everest by risking his life in 2011 and became the only cricketer in the world to do so.

Why did Parore reach Nepal only 2 months before the climb?

How the former New Zealand cricketer achieved success in climbing Mount Everest, he had revealed it in a conversation with the media after that historic feat. Adam Parore told that he completed his climb in May 2011. But to accomplish that historic feat, he reached Nepal on 27 March 2011. After reaching there, he trained with Himalaya Experience Company and worked to acclimatize his body to the climate before starting the climb.

Adam Parore told that when he ran out of oxygen while climbing Mount Everest. In that difficult time, he had described the Sherpa accompanying him as the Messiah for him. According to Parore, if Sherpa had not been there, perhaps he would not have survived and would have died.

After this he told about the feeling he felt while climbing Everest. He told that after reaching Everest, it was difficult for him to stand there. After spending about 20 minutes on Everest and taking photographs, Parore started descending. When he came down, his health became very bad. According to Parore, he also lost his voice. However, after some time everything became as before and he felt healthy.

Talking about Adam Parore’s cricket career, he has played a total of 418 matches, in which he has scored around 12000 runs with 11 centuries. These 418 matches include 255 List A and 163 First Class matches. Being a wicketkeeper, Adam Parore has made 57 stumpings apart from taking more than 500 catches in his career.

Out of the total 418 matches played in his career, 257 have been international matches, in which he has scored more than 6000 runs with 3 centuries. Apart from taking 197 catches in 78 Tests, Adam Parore has made 7 stumpings. In 179 ODIs as a keeper, he has taken 116 catches and made 25 stumpings.

Parore was the first Māori cricketer to play for New Zealand, making his debut against England on 5 July 1990.
