Inside Sundar Pichai’s morning routine: Simple foods that power the Google CEO

One of the global leaders who has inspired many with his perception and ideologies is Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google.

We have all listened to him or heard him share great business codes and quotes with us, but do you know he is also the man known for his fitness and discipline? Waking up each day at 6-7 am, and prefers to read a physical newspaper to gain information about the world, in the world of digital papers.

In a conversation with On with Kara Swisher, he revealed that he enjoys beginning his day slowly, often catching up on three to four newspapers. As a vegetarian, he’s intentional about getting enough protein early in the day. “I’m a vegetarian, so I need to get my protein—that’s why I start my morning with…,” he shared. For each morning, Pichai loves starting his day with 2-3 newspapers, chai, and omellete and a toast. During the video interview, he mentioned, ‘I grew up in India, so for me, my morning chai, which is very English, is important, and as I am vegetarian, I need to get my protein, hence I take an omelette with toast.’

Tea

In India, tea or chai is a comforting blend of water, milk, sugar, and tea leaves, often enriched with spices such as cardamom and black pepper. The preparation typically starts by simmering tea leaves in water, followed by the addition of milk and spices, allowing everything to brew for 5–10 minutes.

Sugar is mixed in toward the end, and the tea is boiled until it reaches a deep colour, then strained and poured into a cup. Besides the classic milk-based chai, Indians also enjoy a variety of floral and light teas made from different leaves.

Omellette

Eggs are a rich source of protein and make a perfect ingredient for breakfast, a simple and versatile dish prepared from them called an omelette. It is prepared by beating eggs and cooking them in a pan, often with various fillings. Consisting of whisked eggs with a pinch of salt and pepper, then poured into a hot, lightly greased pan.

As the eggs begin to set, ingredients such as onions, tomatoes, green chillies, cheese, and herbs are added. Once it cooks evenly, the omelette is folded or rolled and served. Popular versions include plain, masala, cheese, and vegetable omelettes. Over time, new variations have emerged, with added layers of cheese and seasonal toppings like olives and lettuce, making the dish even tastier and more nutritious.

Toast

Toast is a quick and popular breakfast made by browning bread in a toaster, pan, or tawa. You can use white, milk, multigrain, or sourdough bread. The slices are heated until golden and crisp, then enjoyed plain or with toppings like butter, jam, cheese, avocado, or omelette. It’s also a comforting tiffin option for kids, often paired with chips and juice.
