Before Zuckerberg’s reported purchase, Strancally Castle was owned by Michael Alen Buckley and his wife, Giancarla Alen-Buckley.
The couple acquired the estate around 25 years ago and played a role in restoring and preserving the historic property.
Michael Alen Buckley is known for helping establish London-based investment firm RAB Capital. After more than two decades at Strancally, the Alen Buckley family is now leaving the estate.
A spokesperson for the family said they were leaving their home of 25 years fondly and remained grateful for the opportunity to preserve and restore Strancally Castle.
The family also expressed happiness that Zuckerberg and his family intended to continue investing in the property, including maintaining and enhancing the castle and its surrounding grounds in a sustainable manner.
They wished Zuckerberg and his family happiness at the historic estate.

Zuckerberg and his family are reportedly expected to continue spending most of their time at their primary residence in the United States.
Strancally Castle is instead expected to serve as a residence during their visits to Ireland.
The purchase also has a connection to Zuckerberg’s business interests. Meta has its European headquarters in Ireland, making the country an important location for the technology company.
The castle could therefore provide the billionaire and his family with a private retreat while they are in the country.
Mark Zuckerberg’s Growing Property Portfolio
The purchase of Strancally Castle adds another extraordinary property to Zuckerberg’s real estate portfolio.
Unlike a conventional luxury home, the Irish estate offers a combination of historic significance, extensive land and Gothic architecture. Its 440-acre grounds also make it one of the more distinctive properties associated with the Meta CEO.
The castle’s alleged murder-hole story, meanwhile, adds another layer of intrigue to the purchase. While there is no certainty that the grisly tale actually happened, it has survived for generations as part of the area’s folklore.
Now, with Zuckerberg reportedly becoming the new owner, Strancally Castle is set to begin another chapter in its long history.
