Washington DC [अमेरिका]June 30 (ANI): Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra visited Indian Naval Ship Sudarshini at the Port of Baltimore, Maryland on Sunday (local time). The ship is participating in the SAIL 250 Maryland event commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.
The Indian Embassy in the US said in a post on Twitter that the commanding officer briefed the ambassador on the progress of the ship’s transoceanic expedition ‘Lokayan 26’ and also discussed preparations for SAIL 250 events. It further said that the Ambassador conveyed his best wishes to the crew for continuing their journey and efforts to promote mutual cooperation between India and the United States.
The post read, “Ambassador Vinay Kwatra visited Indian Naval Ship Sudarshini at the Port of Baltimore, Maryland on 28 Jun 26, which is currently participating in the SAIL 250 Maryland program from 25-29 Jun 26. The Commanding Officer updated the Ambassador on the progress of SAIL 250, a five-month long transoceanic voyage of approximately 13000 nautical miles and the upcoming SAIL 250 New York and SAIL Boston programs. Gave information about the preparations.”
It added, “The Ambassador wished the crew all the best to continue their wonderful journey and maintain efforts to build bridges of mutual cooperation and trust between nations.”
Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini, arrived at the Port of Baltimore, Maryland on Friday as part of its historic transoceanic voyage ‘Lokayan 26’. It highlights India’s maritime heritage and strengthens naval ties between India and the United States.
According to an official release, INS Sudarshini reached Baltimore after traveling from Norfolk via the historic Chesapeake and Delaware (C&D) Canal, which passes under major mid-Atlantic bridges. The visit marks an important milestone in the operation and underlines the enduring friendship and cooperation between the Indian Navy and the US Navy, the release said.
Participation in Cell 250 Maryland
During her stay in Baltimore, the tall ship of the Indian Navy will engage in maritime engagement and community outreach activities ahead of the Sail 250 Maryland celebrations to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.
Before reaching Baltimore, INS Sudarshini participated in the Sail 250 Virginia celebrations at Norfolk from 19 to 23 June, where it joined tall ships from around the world and represented India in the Parade of Sail and City Crew Parade.
The transoceanic voyage, originating from Kochi, covered a distance of more than 13,000 nautical miles in five months before reaching Norfolk, showcasing India’s long-standing maritime traditions and its maritime reach.
The Indian Navy said the operation reflects the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and aims to promote friendship, cooperation and mutual trust among nations across the oceans.
INS Sudarshini and SAIL 250 Event
INS Sudarshini is a sail training ship of the Indian Navy, used to train naval personnel in traditional sailing skills as well as promote maritime diplomacy and international engagement.
Specifically, SAIL 250 Maryland and Airshow Baltimore, presented by Northrop Grumman and produced by Living Classrooms, is a global gathering of international tall ships, military vessels and aircraft celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America. Maryland and Baltimore are part of a five-city national program that also includes the ports of New Orleans, Norfolk, New York and Boston.
The event provides an opportunity for ship’s crew, cadets and midshipmen, aviators and, of course, visitors from around the world to engage in an unforgettable experience and world-class celebration of all things maritime and aviation in celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary. (ANI)
