Director Indrajit Lankesh is set to release his upcoming historical drama film, “Jai Hind, Jai Sindh: A Love Story,” which explores the pain experienced by the Sindhi community during the Partition. In a recent interview, he provided a glimpse into the film’s narrative.
“This film tells the love story of a young couple set against the backdrop of Partition,” Lankesh explained. “It also portrays the experiences of three generations. While it is a mainstream film featuring actors like Mahesh Manjrekar, Jayaprada, Indira Tiwari, Rahul Dev, and Vikram Kochhar, it fundamentally reflects the suffering of the Sindhi community during that tumultuous time.”
He added, “Through this film, we will showcase a painful chapter in history, where many lost their homes, families, children, and almost everything they had. When Partition occurred, many people, including Sindhis, migrated from Pakistan to India. I genuinely feel for them.”
The director emphasized that the film addresses questions still sought by the Sindhi community, as their ancestral land, Sindh, is now part of Pakistan. “Before Partition, they were Indians, and they still are. They are our brothers and sisters, but their memories, homes, and everything they owned remain in Pakistan. This is a deeply painful chapter in Indian history. I still believe that Sindhis deserve better.”
Discussing the rich history and culture of the Sindhi community, Lankesh stated, “Sindhis have a vibrant heritage. They long for their ancestral land, which I believe is part of India. In fact, it was the Sindhis who pioneered Sufi music. I love their culture, and with great sorrow, I say that it has now become a part of Pakistan. If I could change the pages of history, I would want Sindh to be returned to India because I believe it belongs to India, and Sindhis are an essential part of India.”
