Age fraud occurs frequently in sports. This is seen in cricket also. Many big Indian cricketers are also trapped in age fraud, in which players like Rasikh Salam, Prince Yadav, Manjot Kalra, Nitish Rana have even had to face ban. However, now BCCI has taken a big step to stop age fraud in Indian cricket. According to reports, BCCI has tied up with an independent agency to check the age related documents of the players.

Now there will be no age fraud in Indian cricket?

According to the report of Cricblogger, the Indian Cricket Board is going to create a system which will increase transparency and no player will be able to fake his age. The agency with which BCCI has tied up will consider the death of birth of the players as correct only after contacting the school and other institutions for age verification. In this, Aadhar card, birth certificate and school records will also be checked. This agency of BCCI will also do online verification to certify the documents.

If any player is caught…

According to the report, if any player is caught in age fraud, he will be banned. He will not be able to play in any age group cricket or in the state team. However, before taking action against the players, BCCI will issue a show cause notice to them. The player will get full opportunity to present his side. If he is not able to prove himself right then strict action is certain against him. BCCI is also going to instruct its players to do biometric verification. Players changing teams or states in the coming season will have to provide this information by September 1.

Why is BCCI taking this step?

By stopping age fraud, the biggest benefit will be to those players who are talented. Often older players reduce their age to give way to players of right age. Former captain and former head coach Rahul Dravid has raised this issue. Only after the recommendation of Rahul Dravid, the rule of getting only one chance in the Under-19 World Cup came into force. If the age of a player is correct then it will help in improving his fitness.
