Indian Passport Fees to Increase From July 1: Check New Charges for Fresh, Tatkal & PCC Services

Getting a new Indian passport will cost more from July 1, 2026, after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) revised passport fees across almost every category. The new rates apply to fresh passports, renewals, Tatkal applications, replacement of lost or damaged passports, and several related services.

The revised charges come under the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, notified on June 20. If you’re planning an international trip later this year, applying before the new fees take effect could save you money.

New Indian Passport Fees From July 1

Adults and minors aged 15 to 18 applying for an adult passport will pay:

Service Normal Fee Tatkal Fee
Fresh or reissue a 36-page passport Rs 2,500 Rs 5,000
Fresh or reissue a 60-page passport Rs 3,500 Rs 6,000

The revised pricing means higher upfront costs for anyone applying under the regular or expedited process.

Lost or Damaged Passports Will Cost Much More

The biggest jump is for travellers replacing lost or damaged passports, an expense many only discover after an emergency.

Service Normal Fee Tatkal Fee
Replacement 36-page passport Rs 5,000 Rs 7,500
Replacement 60-page passport Rs 6,000 Rs 8,500
Minor’s replacement 36-page passport Rs 4,250 Rs 6,750

For frequent international travellers, protecting your passport has now become even more important.

One trend is hard to miss. Governments are increasingly shifting more of the cost of public services onto users, and passport issuance is now following suit.

PCC and Other Passport Services Also Cost More

Several passport-related services have also been revised.

  • Police Clearance Certificate (PCC): Rs 750
  • Surrender Certificate: Rs 750
  • Global Entry Program verification: Rs 750
  • Other passport-related certificates: Rs 750
  • Certificate of Identity: Rs 1,000

For services provided outside India:

  • Emergency Certificate: USD 15
  • Certificate of Identity: USD 50
  • Tatkal service is not available for these overseas services.

These updates matter for Indian passport holders applying for work visas, overseas employment, permanent residence, or immigration programmes that require a Police Clearance Certificate.

Passport Validity Remains the Same

While the fees are changing, passport validity remains unchanged.

  • Adult passports will continue to be valid for 10 years.
  • Passports issued to minors will remain valid for five years or until the holder turns 18, whichever comes first.

At A Glance

Travelobiz Take

We believe the higher fees are manageable for first-time applicants but painful for those replacing lost passports. If your passport renewal is due soon, applying before July 1 makes practical sense.
