India’s weightlifting queen Mirabai Chanu has won the country’s first gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She set a record in the women’s 48 kg weightlifting event by lifting a total weight of 190 kg and maintained her dominance. This 31 year old weightlifter created new Commonwealth Games records by lifting 85 kg in snatch and 105 kg in clean and jerk. With this victory, he won his third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal; Earlier, he had also won in 2018 and 2022.
