Shreyas Iyer’s start as captain of the Indian T20 team has not been good. After being out of the T20 International team for about two and a half years, he has returned directly as captain. That too, he got this responsibility by replacing the captain who won the T20 World Cup. But his very first series on the Ireland tour ended with a shameful defeat and he himself could not do anything with his bat. But in the very first match of the new series against England, Iyer scored his first half-century as captain. However, this proved to be the slowest fifty of his career.

In this first match of the 5 T20 match series played on Wednesday 1st July in Chester-le-Street, Team India started with batting. The Indian team had lost 2 wickets for just 6 runs in the second over itself. sanju samson And Ishan Kishan was out. In such a situation, Captain Iyer entered the crease along with Abhishek Sharma, on whom everyone had a close eye for many reasons and there was a kind of uneasiness regarding his success and failure.

Slowest fifty of career

Iyer’s scores against Ireland were 3 and 10 runs. This time he needed to play a long innings and that is what the Indian captain did. He remained at the crease from the third over till the 18th over. During this period, Abhishek Sharma in the beginning and Shivam Dubey in the end took charge of fast batting. But Iyer also contributed in taking the scoreboard forward. Once settled, Iyer also hit some big shots and eventually completed his half-century in 38 balls, which was his 9th in this format.

This was Iyer’s first half-century as Indian captain but it also proved to be the laziest and slowest fifty of his T20 International career. Earlier, he had scored half-centuries twice in 36-36 balls but in this match he left this too behind. After the half-century, he increased the pace a bit and added 18 runs in the next 8 balls. Ultimately Iyer was out after playing an innings of 68 runs in 47 balls. He hit 6 fours and 1 six.

Match canceled due to rain

During this period, Iyer made a partnership of 82 runs with Abhishek and 41 runs with Dubey. Abhishek scored 59 runs in 24 balls and Dubey scored 42 runs in 21 balls. On the basis of these innings, the Indian team scored 189 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. However, this match proved to only add to the records of the players because before the start of England’s innings, it started raining heavily, which then continued and the match was cancelled.
