Manav Suthar 6 Wickets on Test Debut: What Manav Suthar did on the pitch of Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Stadium in New Chandigarh has been recorded in the pages of history. He took 6 wickets while making his test debut against Afghanistan. Well, taking 6 wickets in itself is a big achievement. But, the success of human betterment means more than that. This has been seen in Test cricket after 18 years, when an Indian has taken 5 or more wickets in the debut innings. Not only this, Manav Suthar, who created a stir in his debut test, has also overtaken Ashwin and has now become the number two Indian.
After 18 years, Manav Suthar became the 7th Indian
Manav Suthar took 6 wickets for 33 runs in 22 overs in the first innings against Afghanistan. After this success, his name was also registered in the list of bowlers who took 5 or more wickets on Test debut. But, Manav Suthar is only the 7th Indian to do so in the debut inning of Test. This is the first time in Test after 18 years i.e. 2008 that an Indian bowler has taken 5 or more wickets in the debut inning of a Test match. Last time this was done by Amit Mishra.

Manav Suthar left Ashwin behind
Manav Suthar is the second Indian bowler to take the most wickets in a single inning of the debut test. Narendra Hirwani is at number one in this matter. He took 8-8 wickets in both the first and second innings against West Indies in 1988. In the first innings he took 8 wickets for 81 runs, while in the second innings he took 8 wickets for 75 runs. Suthar has left Ashwin behind in this matter, however, Ashwin also took 6 wickets in the second innings of his debut Test. But he achieved that feat by giving away 47 runs. This is the reason why Manav Suthar’s name has now been registered ahead of him in the list.
Manav Suthar has won everyone’s hearts with his performance on debut against Afghanistan and has also emerged as a new option for spin all-rounder in red ball cricket.
