IPL 2026 As soon as the excitement subsides, preparations will begin for the only Test to be played against Afghanistan. Now there is a big update regarding the test to be played between India and Afghanistan. According to the report, many big names of Team India will be left out of that test. The purpose behind this is to give rest to those players. IPL 2026 is to be organized till 31 May. The India-Afghanistan Test is to be played in New Chandigarh from June 6 to 10. It is clear that there is not much time left between the end of IPL 2026 and the start of the Test against Afghanistan.
Top players rested from Afghanistan Test – report
According to the report of Times of India, BCCI and team management are constantly keeping an eye on the workload of senior players during IPL 2026. To maintain the workload of the top players, they can be kept out of the Test against Afghanistan. According to TOI, the management is yet to take a final call on this but the matter is under consideration. Clouds of uncertainty surrounded the play of India’s top players in this test only when it was revealed that its points would not be added to the WTC.
Which players can be rested?
Now the question is which top players can be out of the team in the test against Afghanistan. This could include names like Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah and others who play regularly in both ODI and Test formats. Apart from this, the senior players whose teams will reach the IPL 2026 playoffs can also be rested from the Test against Afghanistan. But, if the team of some senior players does not reach the playoffs, then in that case they may get the green signal to play. However, all these conditions are currently under consideration and the final decision on this will be taken by the management.
Comfort for some, opportunity for others!
Now every coin has two sides. In such a situation, if some senior players can be given rest from the Test against Afghanistan, then in their place some young faces can also get a chance to show their skills. It is believed that the selectors can give chances to players like Gurnoor Brar, Manav Suthar, Devdutt Padikkal, Aaqib Nabi, Harsh Dubey. The selectors had kept a close eye on the performance of these players during domestic cricket.
