puThe job of LIC is to maintain law and order. But many times the police action itself comes under question. One such case has come to light from Pune, where the video of a sub-inspector went viral on social media. In the video, officers are seen breaking customers’ coffee cups and food items with their sticks during a raid at a cafe. After the video went viral, the officer was suspended, but now he has been reinstated, which has started a new debate.
Video went viral, then suspension and now reinstatement
This incident took place at ‘Flying Gypsy Cafe’ located on Ferguson College Road, Pune. In the video, Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kadam enters the cafe during the raid and knocks down the coffee cups and other food items kept on the table by hitting them with a stick. His style was as if he was doing some great heroic work. As soon as the video went viral, people got angry on social media and demanded strict action against the sub-inspector.
Following increasing pressure, on June 29, Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kadam was suspended pending a departmental inquiry. But investigation found that Kadam had taken action only within the ambit of police rules and procedure. After this, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar ordered to cancel his suspension.

Did everything happen within the ambit of law?
According to the police report, repeated complaints were being received against ‘Flying Gypsy Cafe’. This cafe remained open even after the scheduled time. Six cases of violation of rules are already registered against this cafe. The team of Deccan Police Station had conducted this raid in this connection on June 7. The investigation found that whatever Sandeep Kadam did was not legally wrong.
However, this decision of the police has sparked a new debate on social media. Many people are asking whether it is necessary to carry out demolitions to enforce the law? At the same time, some former police officers believe that immediately suspending the officer in such cases lowers the morale of the force.
