Chopra Temple of Rajasthan
The historic Chopra temple of the district has been the center of faith of devotees for hundreds of years. The special thing about the temple is that there is no ancient temple as this temple. The temple is said to be 500 years old. It is the oldest Shiva temple in Dholpur.
Special worship is done in Sawan
There is no place to set foot in this temple on Monday in Sawan. Devotees from the city and surrounding areas arrive here to see Bhole. Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Jayendra Saraswati has also done Rudrabhishek of Shiva in this temple. A pond is also present in the temple premises. It is said that the temple is known as Chopra Temple due to the size of the said tank. On Mahashivaratri, Sawan month and weekly Monday, a large number of devotees arrive at the temple to worship and offer prayers.
This temple was built by the maternal uncle of Maharaja Bhagwant Singh of Dholpur.
The devotees who visit the temple say that this temple was built by Rajdhar Kanhaiya Lal, the maternal uncle of Maharaja Bhagwant Singh of Dholpur, around 1856 AD. Kanhaiya Lal was the Diwan of the Dholpur royal family. A lively example of architecture Chopra Temple has its own distinct identity. The height of this temple is about 150 feet. It is very beautiful according to architecture and leaves its own mark. To go to its sanctum sanctorum, 25 stairs have to be climbed. The sanctum sanctorum is octagonal. It is also seen as Shiva Yantra. There are also eight doors on the walls of the temple complex. Attractive statues are engraved at each gate. The statue of Brahma is seated at the entrance of the temple. Its peak is also beautiful, which is visible from a distance.
