Basti News: An incident that has shocked the medical world has come to light from Basti district of Uttar Pradesh. Here, the insensitivity and negligence of the government hospital staff not only took the life of a newborn but also brought a pregnant woman to the brink of death. Due to a technical mistake and inhuman treatment during delivery, the newborn’s torso got separated from the head, while the head remained stuck in the mother’s womb.
The incident took place in Muradpur village of Kalwari police station area. Prema Devi, 27-year-old wife of Neeraj Kumar, who lives here, started labor pain on April 8. The family members were hurriedly taking him to the Community Health Center (CHC) Kudraha in an ambulance. On the way, the child’s legs started coming out, due to which the situation became critical.
Pulled suddenly and a terrible accident happened
As soon as the ambulance reached the CHC premises, the staff nurses and employees present there allegedly showed haste without understanding the seriousness of the situation. Husband Neeraj alleges that nurse Kusum gave injection to Prema and pulled the child out with force by holding her legs inside the ambulance. The blow was so strong that the newborn’s soft body could not bear it and his torso separated from the head and came into the nurse’s hands. The child had died and his head was still stuck inside the mother’s womb.
Staff running away from responsibility and looting of private hospital
Seeing this horrific situation, the CHC staff were shocked. Instead of correcting his mistake, he immediately referred the woman to a private nursing home. It is alleged that the game of insensitivity continued there also. The private hospital collected Rs 7,000 from the victim’s family in the name of bed charge and blood test without starting the treatment. When the treatment there started getting delayed, the husband hurriedly ran to Basti Medical College (Cali Unit) with his wife.
2-hour complex operation and expert opinion
Dr. Kalpana Mishra, Assistant Professor of the Medical College, said that when the woman reached there, her condition was very serious. Normal delivery was not possible, so the decision was taken for immediate emergency operation. After a complex operation that lasted for about 2 hours, the head of the newborn stuck in the womb was taken out. After the hard work of the doctors, the woman’s life could be saved.

Experts say that when the baby arrives breech (from the leg side), it is a high-risk case. In such a situation, instead of normal delivery, cesarean (C-section) is the only safe option. There is always a risk of neck entanglement and such fatal consequences due to forceful pulling.
claim check
The victim’s husband Neeraj Kumar has appealed to the administration for justice. He has demanded strict action against the negligence of the CHC staff and the arbitrariness of the private hospital. At the same time, CMO Dr. Rajeev Nigam has denied any knowledge of the matter and has asked to call the report from the medical officer in charge. This incident raises serious questions on the rural health system of Uttar Pradesh and the training of the staff deployed there.
