Khatu Shyam ji is considered to be the Kalyugi avatar of Lord Krishna.
Khatu Shyam ji is also called the second and best archer in the world after Lord Shri Ram.

According to mythology, Khatu was the son of Ghatotkacha, son of Shyam Pandav son Bhima. His name was Barbarik.

Story of Khatu Shyam Ji-
During exile, when the Pandavas were wandering to save their lives, Bhima faced Hidimba. Hidimba gave birth to a son from Bhima named Ghatokha. Ghatokha gave birth to a son named Barbarik. Both of them were known for their valor and powers. When there was going to be a war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, Barbarik decided to see the war. When Lord Krishna asked him whose side he is in the war, he said that he would fight on the side of the side.

Lord Krishna knew the result of the war and he feared that it could have the opposite effect on the Pandavas. In such a situation, Lord Krishna sought donations to stop Barbarik. He asked for his head as a donation. Barbarik donated him his head, but he expressed his desire to see the war till the end.

Lord Krishna accepted his wish and placed his head on a hill on the battle site. After the war, the Pandavas started quarreling on who should get the credit for the victory of the war. Then Barbarik said that he had won because of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna was pleased with this sacrifice and gave him a boon to worship Shyam in Kali Yuga.
