Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal will hold an important meeting on Tuesday. Topics like organizational issues, current political situation and expansion of the Karnataka cabinet are likely to be discussed in it.

New Delhi [भारत]July 14 (ANI): Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal are scheduled to hold an important meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss key organizational issues and the current political situation.

According to party sources, this high-level meeting is tentatively scheduled to be held in the first half of the day, after 11:00 am. Apart from discussing structural changes and strengthening the party’s stand on current political developments, the leaders are also likely to discuss the much-awaited Karnataka cabinet expansion.

Karnataka cabinet expansion will also be discussed

Earlier in June, the Congress high command had issued a stern warning to Karnataka MLAs, seers and community leaders against lobbying for ministerial berths in the DK Shivakumar-led cabinet and asked them to exercise patience. This directive comes after increasing demands from various quarters.

Many community representatives, religious monasteries, saints and followers have publicly demanded cabinet berths for their respective MLAs. Several delegations have also met senior leaders in Bengaluru and Delhi.

Senior party sources said the high command has given a message to the MLAs and their supporters not to exert pressure through public protests, monasteries or community groups. He was asked to maintain discipline as such campaigns could damage the party’s image and create unnecessary factionalism. According to sources, the decision on cabinet expansion and reshuffle will be taken by the party leadership and Chief Minister DK Shivakumar at the appropriate time.

Dissatisfaction in Punjab Congress also

Meanwhile, the party is also facing discontent within the Punjab Congress unit following recent organizational decisions ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. This comes after weeks of speculation of a rift after Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Vading continued in his post and former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi was made the Punjab Campaign Committee chairman.

However, AICC general secretary in-charge of Punjab Bhupesh Baghel has insisted that there is “no resentment” in the party.

Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said unity was important for the elections, but there should be no “compromising leaders” in their ranks. (ANI)
