‘I’ll call the force from five stations’: SHO caught on camera threatening family in UP’s Mirzapur

New Delhi: A viral video featuring the police station in charge of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, is going viral on social media. The footage raises serious questions about the police department’s conduct and operational style in the region.

In the video, Lalganj police station in-charge Abhay Singh is seen threatening the family members of the victim who are blocking the road with a dead body. He told the protestors, “Don’t make me angry, or I will call in reinforcements from five police stations and hang you right there.”

Murder allegation and family claims

The incident took place in Jakar Kala village, which comes under the Lalganj police station area. The family members of the auto driver and orchestra conductor Dilip Kumar alias Deepak Kori had blocked the road by placing the dead body on the road, alleging his murder after his body was found in a canal.

The deceased’s brother, Rohit Kumar, alleged that Deepak Kori had gone to drop off girls from an orchestra on Wednesday evening. While returning, some of his co-workers Suresh Maurya, Abdul Mohammad, and Thakur Deepak, allegedly assaulted him and then threw him along with his Toto into the canal.

The family alleges that the police initially refused to register a case, leading them to stage a protest. Following his statements, questions about the police’s working style have been raised on social media.

Police registers case

When the situation escalated, CO Amar Bahadur arrived at the scene and pacified the family. The police then registered a case of culpable homicide against three named accused and assured them of a speedy resolution. Following this assurance, the family ended the blockade and the police department was shaken after the video of the station in charge went viral.
