An applicant shared a bad recruiting experience on Reddit. The interviewer of the company asking for ‘immediate joining’ did not come twice. When HR contacted again after a month, questions were raised on the double standards of the companies.
A job applicant has shared his disappointing job interview experience on Reddit. She accused a company of repeatedly seeking “immediate joiner” candidates, with no regard for the candidate’s time or professional commitments. This post was shared on the popular subreddit r/developersIndia with the title “The absolute audacity of HRs and ‘immediate joiner’ requirements”. It details the ordeal that lasted for a month, which included not taking interviews, poor communication and the company’s dual attitude in hiring. “I’m really fed up with the recruitment circus going on in this country,” he wrote.
According to the applicant, she had applied for a position through a job-search and recruitment platform about four weeks ago. Soon after applying, a recruiter contacted her and told her that the company was specifically looking for someone who could join within two weeks.
The applicant clarified that he is serving a 60-day notice period in his current job, but added that this period is negotiable as he has a buyout option and accrued holidays, which can be adjusted. The recruiter reportedly agreed to the arrangement and scheduled an interview for the next day. However, the candidate claimed that the interviewer never came. To attend the interview, she had reportedly taken leave from her current office and also spent time in preparation, but she had to wait without any intimation.
“Both my leave and time were wasted,” she wrote.
The interview was then rescheduled for the next day, but according to the applicant, the same thing happened again. The interviewer allegedly did not come the second time and no explanation was given by the company. She added, “No emails, no updates, just complete silence.”
The applicant also claimed that after the second missed interview, the company did not contact him for about a month. Surprisingly, later the same HR representative contacted him again and asked if he could still join within two weeks. Expressing her disappointment, she wrote, “Are you really kidding?” She said recruiters “don’t care about the candidate’s time at all”.
She also criticized double standards in corporate hiring. She pointed to the contradiction that companies demand “immediate joiners” while imposing long notice periods on their own employees. She said sarcastically, “You mean, you want me to be teleported to your office in 14 days, but if I want to leave your ‘respectable’ company, I have to serve a notice period of three months?”
The applicant also argued that candidates with long notice periods are often overlooked during recruitment, while the notice policy in the industry is such that it is difficult to change jobs quickly.
This post quickly went viral among Reddit users. Many people shared similar experiences with recruiters and hiring managers. Some users even suggested publicly naming such companies to protect other job seekers from similar situations, while others called for the creation of a directory to keep track of companies known for “red flags” in hiring.
