A feature of the lake
You may be surprised to know that ponds are not a gift of nature. The lake was constructed by the Assam Electricity Board. In 1965, about seven years before it became a full state, a dam was built on the Umiam, a hill river in Meghalaya, to construct a hydroelectric project.
