Indian Railways General Ticket New Rule: If you often travel by train and book general tickets through mobile, then this news is very important for you. Indian Railways has clarified the rules regarding digital general tickets. Now one cannot travel by merely showing the ticket’s screenshot, photo, PDF or copy sent on WhatsApp. During the journey, passengers will have to show only the original digital ticket available in the Rail One app. Fine can also be imposed for not following the rules.
Female passenger had to pay fine for showing screenshot
Recently, fine was collected from a lady passenger while traveling in Korba-Visakhapatnam Link Express (18517). At the time of ticket checking, he showed the WhatsApp screenshot of the ticket sent by his brother. Investigation revealed that the ticket was booked online after the departure of the train and it was not even available in the registered mobile phone through which the booking was done. Railways considered it invalid and took action as per rules.
What are the new rules for those booking general tickets through mobile?
According to the Railways, an unreserved (General) digital ticket will be considered valid only if it is available on the Rail One app in the same mobile from which the ticket is booked. Apart from this, the ticket should be booked before the commencement of the journey.

- General tickets booked through mobile will not be accepted after the train has left the station.
- The registered mobile number of the booking and its number should be available at the time of check in.

To which passengers will this rule not apply?
Railway officials have clarified that this rule applies only to unreserved (general) digital tickets booked through the mobile app. This system is not applicable for passengers traveling on reservation tickets, because there the government identity card is also checked along with the ticket.
