If the illegal Bangladeshis living in West Bengal go back on their own, the Bengal government will not file any case against them. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in Gandhinagar on Thursday that far from prosecuting the case, the government will also help in the return of such illegal infiltrators.
‘Those who have entered illegally should leave on their own’
The Union Home Minister has again reiterated that the Central Government is committed to ‘detect, detain and deport’ illegal infiltrators in the country. Amit Shah said, ‘Today newspapers are saying that illegal infiltrators are going back on their own. Bengal government has created detention centres…’
‘Our resolve is to expel every infiltrator’
On this occasion, the Home Minister accused the previous Mamata Banerjee-led government of Bengal of allowing infiltration into West Bengal without investigation. During a public meeting at Sonipur in Gandhinagar district of Gujarat, he said-
Fencing work started in Bengal as promised
- The BJP leader said that his party had promised during the Bengal Assembly elections that if voted to power, fencing would be done on the India-Bangladesh border.
- The Home Minister also thanked Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari for handing over 600 acres of land to BSF for fencing within seven days of forming the government in Bengal.
121 hectares of land also for Siliguri corridor
He said that not only this, the state government has also handed over 121 hectares of land of the strategically important Siliguri Corridor or ‘Chicken Neck’ to the Central Government, which connects the North-Eastern states with the rest of India.
This time attack on ‘demographic change’!
- According to Home Minister Amit Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also formed a high-powered committee to investigate the reasons for ‘abnormal demographic change’. This committee will submit its report within a year.
- According to him, ‘The committee will study the situation and suggest solutions, including whether any law is needed to deal with illegal infiltrators.’
