ICC lashed out at cricketer who acted hurt, now he got severe punishment for this act

Often, disputes between players are seen in international cricket matches. Besides, players also keep having conflicts with umpires. Small matters are settled on the field itself but sometimes some players cross the limits and then the International Cricket Council takes action against them. Something similar happened with Afghanistan’s experienced all-rounder Gulbadin Naib, where he was punished for questioning the umpire’s decision during the match against Zimbabwe.

Gulbadin did this act

This incident happened in the second match of the T20 series being played between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan was bowling the 11th over of Zimbabwe’s innings. On one of his balls, there was an appeal for LBW against Zimbabwean batsman Tshinga Muskiwa, which was rejected by the umpire. What happened next, Gulbadin, making fun of the decision, bowed his head in the field to celebrate the wicket and then appealed to DRS.

ICC imposed fine

DRS facility was not available in this match, hence appealing for review was considered an insult to the umpire’s decision. On this matter, the match referee accused Gulbadin of violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which is related to registering a protest against the umpire’s decision. Gulbadin admitted his mistake, after which the match referee punished him by deducting 15 percent of his match fee and also added one demerit point to his account.

Talking about this match, Afghanistan defeated Zimbabwe by a huge margin of 50 runs and with this they leveled the series at 1-1. Before his action in fielding, Gulbadin also played an important innings and scored 26 runs in 21 balls, taking the team to the important score of 153 runs. Zimbabwe team collapsed for just 103 runs. For that, captain Rashid Khan and pacer Naveen Ul Haq took 3 wickets each.

Acted injured during the match

This is not the first time that Gulbadin has come into limelight more for his strange behavior on the field than for his performance. Earlier, during the T20 World Cup held in June, Gulbadin had also come into limelight due to his antics. Then during the match against Bangladesh, Gulbadin started making the excuse of suddenly getting injured while fielding. Due to this excuse of his, the match got interrupted for some time, due to which the Bangladeshi team started lagging behind in that match which was affected by rain. Gulbadin was heavily criticized for this action.
