On Sunday, May 31, while everyone was waiting for the final match of IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, at the same time an important meeting of the ICC Board was also going on under the chairmanship of Jay Shah. Many big decisions were taken in this meeting, in which some announcements were also made on issues related to women’s cricket. One such decision was taken regarding the first Women’s Champions Trophy to be held next year. The ICC Board has made changes in the schedule of Women’s Champions Trophy 2027. This tournament will now be held in February.
ICC had announced last year itself that like men’s cricket, 8-team Champions Trophy will be started in women’s cricket too. For this, ICC had fixed the window of June-July in 2027. But in the ICC board meeting held in Ahmedabad, it has been decided to change this window. Now this tournament will be organized in February, for which the date of 14th to 28th February has been fixed. Unlike the men’s Champions Trophy, the Women’s Champions Trophy will be played in T20 format.
Apart from this, an important decision was also taken regarding the Women’s T20 World Cup 2028. Pakistan has to host this tournament to be held after two years. But ICC made it clear in this meeting that the Indian team will not play its matches in Pakistan, rather its matches will be played at neutral venues. The reason for this is the ongoing tension in India-Pakistan relations, due to which Team India did not tour Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2025, whereas the Pakistani team did not come to India in the last Women’s ODI World Cup and this year’s Men’s T20 World Cup.
