I Want To Talk Review: As if Irrfan Khan has transformed into Abhishek Bachchan…sorrow can also be beautiful.

Abhishek Bachchan has set his line. He knows that working in a big commercial film is not particularly beneficial for him. Nowadays no one will make a masala film with him in the lead. Therefore, he has resorted to such cinema which has value in the library. He is doing well in this also. His recently released film ‘Ghoomar’ is an example of this. Now his another film has come. Its name is I Want To Talk. This is the picture of Shoojit Sircar, who made biopics like ‘Piku’ and ‘October’, hence there were expectations from this film.

With such films, the risk of falling asleep in the theater remains the same. Because people nowadays do not like to watch such realistic films in theatres. He likes to spend extra money for commercial films of big stars, but he prefers to watch I Want To Talk on OTT. However, ‘I Want to Talk’ is a film which keeps you awake. It also tries to awaken the sleeping person inside you. Teaches to love. Shows sadness. Makes you laugh too. It also tries to present the reality of life on screen.

Cancer is also a character in the film

Abhishek Bachchan is the marketing guy in the film. He has come and settled in America from India. His name is Arjun. One day Arjun comes to know that he has cancer. And this is not just any cancer, it has spread to many of his organs. The doctors give him only 100 days time. But Arjun does not accept defeat. He has to live. Many surgeries take place. Even 95 percent of his stomach is removed. On one hand he has cancer and on the other hand he is divorced. His daughter Riya comes to stay with him on alternate days. At one point his life becomes such that he decides to die.

Baba, what does it mean to die?

The film is not just the story of a cancer survivor. But it is also the story of him being a father. There is a dim flame in his relationship with his daughter. Imagine someone’s daughter asking him, Baba, what does it mean to die? Are you dying. Seeing his peeled head, Riya says – Please, will you cover your head while dropping me to school? It hurts just to hear, but who knows what happens to the person who feels it!

Great screenplay – strong treatment

Now you might be feeling that we have told you the entire story of the film. But Apna has told only as much as the trailer. You will know after watching the rest of the film. However, this film should be seen not for the story but for its screenplay. The story is simple. But its screenplay is complex. Ritesh Shah should get full marks for this. But he will have to give an extra number to Shoojit Sircar for the treatment of this film.

Rabdi has taste

This film of Shoojit Sircar is milk cooking on slow flame. Which turns red after some time and gives a sweet taste. If it is left on fire for any longer, it turns into rabri. You just have to put a ladle in it and keep stirring. Shoojit has done the same. He kept stirring the ladle in the pan, the milk kept thickening. The taste kept increasing. But this process requires patience. Not only for the one making the rabri, but the one who has to eat the rabri will also have to be patient. Many people may feel that ‘I Want to Talk’ is a slow film. But life also happens slowly. If you liked Shoojit’s October, then you will also like this film. If its second half could have been edited a little, it would have been more fun. You can’t edit anything in life, but you can make jump cuts in a film.

beauty of silence

For example, if a paper is written everywhere on it, it looks dirty. A little white space has to be left. That white space has great importance in the beauty of writing. Similarly, silence has great importance in the beauty of a film. Saw ‘Kanguva’ a few days ago, it was so noisy that it was difficult to hear the voices of people nearby. ‘I Want to Talk’ is a completely opposite film. Where you can even hear a man’s breathing. There is no background music in more than half the film. Just like it happens in real life. What a beautiful thing, isn’t it? Shoojit has hired Nature as BGM composer in this film.

Irrfan Khan looks like Abhishek Bachchan

Abhishek Bachchan proved once again that he is a very good actor. He has beautifully portrayed Arjun’s mood on screen. We have been given a chance to peek into Arjun’s body as well as his mind. He should not be praised enough for this role. I wish he had not been the son of Amitabh Bachchan, he would have got more recognition in Bollywood, but he got lost somewhere in the shade of a big tree. But now they themselves are moving towards becoming big trees. Somewhere in between, I heard Shoojit saying that he saw reflection of Irrfan in Abhishek. I also felt as if Irrfan Khan had transformed into Abhishek Bachchan. Well, Ahilya Bamru who played Abhishek’s daughter Riya has also done a wonderful job. As if everything is real, no acting has been done. It’s good to see Johnny Lever. Overall everyone’s acting has been very good.

This is a real life story. Therefore the picture is also very close to reality. No attempt has been made to add too much drama in this. If you like watching slow burners, then this film is for you. Come and watch it in your nearest cinema theatre. Book the ticket brother, what are you doing!
