Soaring fuel prices have pushed many to opt for CNG vehicles. And if you are in the market for a fuel-efficient car under Rs 10 lakh, the Grand i10 Nios and Tiago should definitely be on top of your wishlist. But how do both these cars fare against each other? Let’s compare –
Tata Tiago CNG Vs Hyundai i10 Nios CNG – Mileage Comparison

Both cars are powered by a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine and have similar power outputs. Another similarity between these cars is the dual-cylinder technology. A dual-cylinder setup comes as standard if you opt for the CNG trims of these cars. Furthermore, both have an identical CNG tank capacity. Does this mean that the mileage figures are the same?
On paper, yes. The Tiago has an ARAI-claimed mileage of 26.49 km/kg (5-speed MT). The i10 Nios has a similar figure of 27km/kg. The differences become more evident in the real-world. When we tested both these cars, the Grand i10 Nios performed slightly better.
| Mileage | I10 Nios CNG | Tata Tiago CNG |
| Claimed (ARAI) | 26.49 km/kg | 27 km/kg |
| Real-World | 18-19 km/kg | 21-23 km/kg |
Tata Tiago CNG Vs Hyundai i10 Nios CNG – What Else?

The i10 Nios edges out the Tiago in the mileage competition. But the same can’t be said about the pricing. The Tiago CNG is offered across 5 variants, with pricing ranging from Rs 6.68 lakh to Rs 9.79 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). On the other hand, the Grand i10 Nios offers CNG only on 2 of its variants. Not to mention, the pricing starts at a steep tag of Rs 8.32 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). You also don’t get the option of an AMT gearbox for the i10. This means you could get the Tiago CNG-AMT instead of the i10 Nios and still save Rs 30,000 upfront. The Tiago seems to be the clear winner in this regard. Overall, the Tiago also offers more features on its higher variants.
However, if fuel efficiency is an absolute deal-breaker for you, the i10 Nios seems like the perfect fit. But if you desire the better overall package, the Tiago is the one to buy.
