The Hyundai Creta is India’s favourite mid-sized SUV, and its demand has been consistently high since its launch in 2016. Features, powertrain, and looks have been driving factors behind its sales. However, fuel efficiency has never really been its strong point. Luckily, that is soon set to change.

Hyundai Creta Hybrid – What To Expect?

The next-gen Creta is now long overdue. The outgoing model may have gotten a facelift in 2024, but its platform dates back almost a decade. That is soon set to change with the next-gen model. The Hyundai Creta is expected to adopt the new Hyundai-Kia K3 platform. This platform is also used on the new Seltos and promises big things. Thanks to this new platform, the Seltos has grown larger, offering improved practicality and cabin space. Not to mention that the new Seltos is now also the safest SUV in its segment. But what’s more interesting is that Hyundai is reportedly working on a hybrid powertrain. The market is about to see a plethora of new HEV models, including the Jetour T2 and Starlight 560, as well as several new Maruti hybrid models. Hyundai will soon be joining this race.
Features

From the test mules, we can see that the next-gen model will feature a new cockpit design with a slim digital driver’s display and a ginormous 14-inch infotainment screen. The outgoing model is already quite feature-loaded, and that would continue with the new model. Some of the expected features include –
- Level 2+ ADAS
- Panoramic sunroof
- Powered front seats
- Ventilated front seats
- 360-degree camera
- Automatic climate control
- Electric tailgate
- Wireless charging
Hyundai Creta Hybrid – Powertrain

The Creta’s sibling, the Seltos, is sold as an HEV in the US. The US-spec model is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain. That means Hyundai has two options. One is to bring the same 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid to India or accommodate the outgoing 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. It is still too early to predict what choice Hyundai makes. No matter the engine, the Creta hybrid is expected to deliver around 24-25 kmpl, which is quite an improvement over the outgoing model.
Rivals
The Creta hybrid would compete against other hybrid SUVs like the Grand Vitara, Victoris and the Hyrydyer. It would also go up against upcoming SUVs like the Duster hybrid and the Seltos hybrid.
Hyundai Creta Hybrid – Expected Launch & Pricing

The next-gen Creta is expected to launch in the early months of 2027. But for the hybrid, we could have to wait a bit longer. Sources suggest a possible launch in late 2027 or early 2028. With the launch of the hybrid, the Creta will be available with 5 different powertrains – NA petrol, turbo-petrol, diesel, electric and hybrid. To complete the package, Hyundai would need to offer a CNG option.
The Creta hybrid could cost between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 26 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). You would have to pay a big premium over the standard ICE models, but you would make up for it within a couple of years. And with the surge in fuel costs, the Creta hybrid could be a life-saver to Creta buyers.
