Hydrogen Train: India’s first hydrogen train on Jind-Sonipat route created history in 5 days, know the big achievement. India First Hydrogen Train Jind Sonipat Route Success 900 Km Operation Completed National Green Hydrogen Mission

India’s first hydrogen fuel cell train set a new example of clean and green rail transport by successfully covering 900 KM in 5 days on the Jind-Sonipat route.

Jind. India has created a new history in the field of public transport. The country’s first hydrogen fuel cell-powered passenger train has performed brilliantly in its initial operation on the Jind-Sonipat rail route. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had flagged off this train on 17 July 2026. In the first five days after the commencement of commercial service, this train has successfully completed the journey of about 900 kilometers without any technical hindrance. With this achievement, India has joined the list of select countries which have successfully introduced state-of-the-art hydrogen rail technology into passenger service.

Zero Emission Technology: Train running without pollution with hydrogen technology

The new hydrogen train is powered by two state-of-the-art 1,200 kilowatt capacity Hydrogen-Electric Propulsion System in place of conventional diesel engines. The fuel cells installed in the train generate electricity through the chemical process of hydrogen and oxygen, which provides energy to the train. In this entire process, only water vapor and heat come out as by-products. That is, this train is completely based on zero-emission technology, which is considered a big step towards environmental protection.

Hydrogen Train Fare: Fare kept very affordable for common passengers

Despite being equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the fare of this train has not been kept out of reach of the common people. Passengers will not have to pay any additional fee for this. The ticket fare has been kept the same as for normal diesel multiple unit (DMU) trains, which is around ₹10 to ₹25. With this, passengers of every category will be able to easily avail the benefits of clean and modern travel.

National Green Hydrogen Mission: Big step towards Green India

This hydrogen train with 10 coaches has emerged as an environmentally friendly and economically better alternative to diesel based trains. This completely eliminates polluting emissions and also reduces dependence on imported fuel. This project is playing an important role in strengthening the ‘National Green Hydrogen Mission’ of the Government of India. This will promote clean energy based transportation system in the country.

Jind Hydrogen Facility: Refueling system prepared with indigenous technology

To make this project successful, a special hydrogen storage and refueling facility developed with indigenous technology has been established in Jind. This arrangement makes regular and long-term operation of the train more economically viable. This infrastructure will also create a strong foundation for Indian Railways to expand hydrogen trains in the future.

Indian Railways Hydrogen Train: Will set a new example for the country

The successful launch of the Hydrogen train on the Jind-Sonipat route is not only a technological achievement but also a glimpse of India’s future clean and self-reliant transportation model. After this success, the way for operating hydrogen based trains on other railway routes of the country will also be strengthened. This project is giving India a new identity towards developing a green, sustainable and modern public transport system.
