The couple got married in 2013 and in February this year, they had filed for divorce by mutual consent in Surat. “An FIR has been registered on charges of cheating, forgery and cheating by changing identity. This crime carries a punishment of not less than seven years, so no arrests have been made yet. A notice has been sent to the accused,” a Bandra Police official said. According to the complaint, the woman came to know about the misuse of her identity when she received an unsolicited call from the hotel staff.

In the FIR, the woman said, “I came to know about the misuse of my Aadhaar card when the five-star hotel staff called me and informed me about it. My husband used a fake and fabricated Aadhaar card with my name and photograph, even though he knew it was not mine. The woman who was with him pretended to be my identity by pretending that she was the same woman on the Aadhaar card. By misusing that fake Aadhaar card, my husband and the unknown woman accompanying him conspired to cheat me.”

The alleged fraud came to light when the woman went to Mumbai on April 14 for personal work. Meanwhile, her lawyer expressed suspicion when he heard that the couple had reconciled.

In the FIR, the woman further said, “At that time, my lawyer called me and asked if I and my husband had reconciled and we had withdrawn our divorce case. When I refused, he told me that one of his acquaintances had seen my husband checking in with someone else in the hotel room. After confirming all the information, I went to the hotel the next day and checked the CCTV footage and booking details, after which I contacted Bandra Police.” In this case, the police are investigating the allegations of use of fake identity card in the luxury hotel and cheating by changing the identity.
