New Delhi: The race to redefine foldable smartphones just took a sharp turn. Huawei has officially launched the Huawei Pura X Max, and an early hands-on video is already drawing comparisons to Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone. The broader form of the device is creating the speculation that it might be an almost perfect glimpse into what Apple is creating under wraps.
Recently, Chinese YouTuber Vincent Zhong showcases the Pura X Max in his unboxing video and says that the form factor is very similar to the leaks related to the so-called iPhone Fold. Although Apple is yet to confirm any plans of a foldable, several reports indicate that the company may have a wider-than-usual design, which Huawei has already released into the market.
Huawei Pura X Max feels like a mini tablet
This is how the iPhone Fold is expected to look.

The Huawei Pura X Max has an inner OLED screen with a 7.7-inch and an outer screen with a 5.4-inch. This makes it much nearer to the rumoured specifications of the Apple model which is set to have an internal display of 7.8 inches and a cover screen of 5.5 inches.
The broader aspect ratio leads to much easier usability, as described in a video by Zhong. He mentions that the phone is more of a compact tablet when expanded, giving the feel of an iPad mini-like experience. The additional width also enables more easily one-handed access to apps – something that narrower foldables do not achieve.
Huawei beats Apple and Samsung to the ‘Wide Fold’ era
On April 20, 2026, Huawei announced the Pura X Max; before Samsung is expected to launch one, it is rumoured that Samsung is preparing a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide in the second half of 2026. This places Huawei at a first-mover advantage in what might become the new trend in foldables.
The gadget is available in various colour choices and specifications and costs at least Rs 1.5 lakh in China. It uses the Huawei Kirin 9030 Pro chipset and is supported by a 5,300mAh battery. The phone also has fast wired and wireless charging and has advanced connectivity features such as 5G and Bluetooth 6.
Huawei Pura X Max specs and cameras
At the hardware level, the Pura X Max has a triple camera setup. It has a 50MP primary camera with adjustable aperture, a 50MP periscope telephoto with 100x digital zoom, and a 12.5MP ultra-wide camera. In the case of selfies, Huawei has provided both 8MP cameras on the inside and the outside.
The foldable is also capable of 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, which is one of the most powerful devices in its category. It is powered by HarmonyOS 6.1 and has IP58 and IP59 dust and water resistance ratings, which is uncommon on foldables.
What this means for Apple’s Foldable iPhone?
If leaks hold true, the first foldable that Apple will release might be a close replica of the one that Huawei has already released. The focus on width more than height is an indication of emphasis on productivity and tablet-like functionality and not portability alone. For now, Huawei has set the benchmark. And if the iPhone Fold launches later this year, expectations will already be sky-high.
