Tuti once had a say in state politics

The dominance of the Congress Party has been so much in the politics of Bihar that if the few years between independence till 1990 are excluded, then this party has given the maximum number of Chief Ministers in the state. However, now the situation is that the presence of this party is after RJD, BJP and JDU in Bihar Assembly. In the number of MPs in the Lok Sabha, Congress is counted after parties like JDU, BJP, LJP and RJD.

A senior leader associated with the state Congress, on the condition of anonymity, said that due to the absence of a state committee, many leaders and workers ask each other questioningly. He says that the formation of the state committee brings enthusiasm among the workers. He works to strengthen the party and organization.

Many state presidents of the party changed

Experts say that in the last eight years, many leaders have sat on the post of state president of the party. Among these, Madan Mohan Jha’s tenure lasted for about four and a half years. Kokab Qadri had a tenure of one year only. Nearly two and a half years have passed since the tenure of the current state president Akhilesh Prasad Singh. But the state committee could not be formed during the tenure of these three.

The last committee was formed in 2013

The State Congress Committee was last formed in Bihar when Ashok Chaudhary, currently one of the senior leaders of JDU and a minister in the Nitish government, was the state president of the party. Then Ashok Choudhary had formed a state committee of 225 members. At that time, 15 Vice Presidents, 25 General Secretaries, 76 Secretaries, 45 Organization Secretaries, 77 Executive Members and many special invitees were appointed. A treasurer was also made. At present the State Congress Committee has not been formed but Nirmal Verma has been appointed as the Treasurer.

Even the in-charge could not get the committee formed

In the last ten years, not only 3-3 state presidents of the State Congress have been appointed but 3-3 in-charges have also been changed. When Ashok Chaudhary was the state president, Shakti Singh Gohil was the party in-charge of the state Congress. Under his leadership, Congress had first contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and then the 2015 assembly elections. After this Bhakta Charan Das became in-charge of Bihar. Presently Mohan Prakash is in-charge of Pradesh Congress. Even after this the state committee could not be formed.

In the year 2022, when the top leadership of Congress had handed over the command of the state party to Akhilesh Prasad Singh in place of Madan Mohan Jha, then he had talked about bringing back the lost ground of the party in the state. He had also announced to form a committee soon, but two years have passed but no steps have been taken in this regard.

Now when will the committee be formed?

State Congress chief spokesperson Rajesh Rathore said that whenever a new president is elected, the old committee is dissolved. Ever since the new state president has been appointed, a new committee has to be formed. Both the state president himself and the Bihar in-charge have simultaneously claimed that committees will be formed in Bihar very soon to strengthen the organization. Rathore also says that I do not discuss those who are not in our party. State Congress President Akhilesh Prasad Singh and Bihar Congress in-charge Mohan Prakash said that committees will be formed in the state as soon as possible.

Congress should first leave RJD: Sanjay Upadhyay

Senior journalist Sanjay Upadhyay said that the structural organization of Congress has huge shortcomings internally. In a way, feudal tendencies dominate the state leadership of the party. There is a significant lack of democracy especially in the state leadership of the party. The result is that this party has been completely uprooted from the ground. Champaran area of the state was once the strongest stronghold of the country for Congress. Now the situation is such that NDA has been sitting there for the last 20 years.

He said, “To rise up, Congress will have to tell about the programs and policies of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi. He also says, first of all Congress will have to leave RJD. Because RJD has been identified as a tainted party in Bihar. Congress is doing politics riding on the back of RJD. As a result, people have now started seeing it as a very weak party in Bihar.”
