Kochi in Kerala has become the first Elder Friendly City in the country. Now the second Elder Friendly City of the country is going to be built in Kerala. After Kochi, now the next Elder Friendly City is going to become Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of the state. For this, a special plan has been prepared from Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation. In this scheme, all the elderly people in the city will be medical examination in their homes. If needed, they will be given all the facilities of the hospital.
For all the elderly above 70 years, the journey of buses will be made free. This plan is in its last phase. For this, a Senior Citizen Council of 12 members has been formed. The chairman of this council is Mayor Arya Rajendran. He said that the Municipal Corporation is going to conduct a survey of the elderly living in the city. It will be seen in the survey that how many houses are the elderly alone. Their list will be prepared.
Free mobile clinic for elderly
He said that in the second list, the name of the elders who remain alone will be the name after the children go to work in the morning. We will make a separate plan to connect those elders. Free mobile clinic will open in every ward for the elderly. Those who are struggling with the elderly mental diseases will also counseling them. Helph desk is going to be made, which will provide emergency services to the elderly. The elders will be able to take help by calling here for their problems. Those who must have stayed alone after the elderly children have gone to work, they will stay in the day care center. These centers will be opened from place to place.
Elderly stake in the development of the city
The Mayor said that the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation has decided that the schemes, construction and implementation will be included in the elderly. After the survey, a list of experts in different areas will be prepared. All the government departments will have this list. We are also planning to organize the Kajjan Festival in the city every year. We did it in 2024.
He said that there were different events for the elderly. We are trying to help our elders live a better life on this way of life.
