Upcoming Honda Cars: Honda is preparing to give a tough competition in the Indian compact SUV market. The company is going to launch its new sub-4 meter SUV to compete with vehicles like Brezza and Nexon, which will also have the option of 1.2-litre petrol engine.
BhaThe demand for compact SUVs is continuously increasing in the Indian car market. For this reason, Japanese car company Honda is preparing a new sub-4 meter SUV for India. This new SUV will give direct competition to popular vehicles like Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue. Honda had recently announced that it will launch six new models in this financial year, in which special focus will be given to hybrid technology. The company has already launched the City facelift and ZR-V in the market. Additionally, hybrid models of the Prelude hybrid sports car, Accord, Civic and CR-V are also being considered.
Of all these, the most talked about is Honda’s new compact SUV. According to reports, this SUV will be specially made keeping in mind the needs of the Indian market. Honda believes that the preferences and market needs of Indian customers are different from other countries, hence this SUV will be designed according to the needs here. The company has not yet given complete information about the design and features of the SUV, but it is believed that it will be launched at a very competitive price so that more and more customers buy it.
Engine and powertrain
It is expected that Honda’s new SUV will have many powertrain options. This may include petrol engines as well as electric and hybrid options. The initial model is expected to use Honda Amaze’s 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, which generates around 89 bhp power and 110 Nm torque. Customers can be given the option of both manual and automatic gearboxes.
How much will it cost?
The starting ex-showroom price of the new Honda SUV can be between Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. At the same time, the ex-showroom price of its top model can go up to Rs 14 lakh. If the company launches its hybrid or electric versions, their price will be higher than this.
Honda’s old attempt
Honda entered the compact SUV segment in 2017 with the WR-V. Initially, the WR-V was well received by the customers and it became one of Honda’s best-selling cars. But with time, its sales started declining due to increasing competition, lack of new updates and lack of petrol automatic option. The WR-V was discontinued from the Indian market after the implementation of BS6 Phase 2 regulations. Now, Honda is once again preparing to make a comeback in this popular segment.
