According to him, for a long time, different claims and calculations were going on between the four states regarding financial matters related to the project, due to which the dispute remained constant.
Financial burden on Madhya Pradesh increased after Attorney General’s opinion
Minister Silawat said that in February 2026, the Attorney General of India had given his legal opinion on this matter. Based on this opinion, a situation was being created that Madhya Pradesh might have to pay approximately Rs 1500 crore to the Gujarat government. The reason for this was that at that time Gujarat’s share of the project cost was considered fixed at 50 percent.
Expenditure formula changed due to Amit Shah’s initiative, MP gets big relief
The Water Resources Minister said that representatives of the four states held a detailed discussion under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Under the guidance of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil, it was decided that Gujarat’s share in the project cost should be increased from 50 percent to 75 percent. After this decision, there was a big reduction in the liability of Madhya Pradesh and the potential payment of Rs 1500 crore came down to only Rs 231 crore.
Benefits of 31 lakh hectare irrigation and cheap electricity will continue
Minister Silavat said that after this agreement the dispute related to Sardar Sarovar Project has completely ended. Now Madhya Pradesh will continue to get irrigation facility in 31 lakh hectare area like before. Besides, the supply of electricity to the state at the rate of 85 paise per unit will also continue, which will benefit the farmers and the development of the state.
Expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah
Minister Silavat said that the Madhya Pradesh government expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. His leadership and initiative led to a resolution of this dispute that had been pending for years, benefiting all the states concerned. Appeal to Congress not to do politics
Tulsiram Silavat accused Congress of spreading confusion regarding this issue. He said that this issue is not a political dispute but a matter related to the interest of the four states and the country. Therefore, instead of doing politics on this, Congress should welcome this historic solution.
