The sacred Shri Hemkunt Sahib Yatra 2026 commenced with a devout procession carrying the Guru Granth Sahib. The Indian Army cleared the snow-laden route and assisted pilgrims. Devotees were urged to focus on prayer and avoid photography.
The sacred Shri Hemkunt Sahib Yatra 2026 commenced on Saturday with deep spiritual fervour and immense devotion. The ceremonial procession carrying the holy Guru Granth Sahib to the revered shrine was conducted with great dignity and reverence. The auspicious journey began from the base camp under the leadership of the Panj Pyaras.
The Head Granthi carried the sacred Guru Granth Sahib on his head with complete religious sanctity and traditional maryada. Devotees accompanied the procession while singing soulful kirtans.
Indian Army’s Key Role
The Indian Army band played devotional and martial tunes, adding to the spiritual atmosphere. Indian Army personnel, who had undertaken the challenging task of clearing snow from the pilgrimage route, also actively participated in managing the procession and ensuring the safety of pilgrims.
Guidance for Devotees
Gurdwara Chairman Bindra made a special appeal to the Sangat to refrain from photography and videography within the Gurdwara premises and instead immerse themselves fully in prayer and devotion, which is the true purpose of undertaking such a difficult and strenuous pilgrimage. He also urged devotees to have langar and stay at the newly established Gurdwara Ratura, which would help reduce the burden on other Gurdwaras along the route.
Historical and Spiritual Significance
Sardar Seva Singh welcomed devotees arriving from different states across India as well as from abroad, and highlighted the universal spiritual appeal of this sacred shrine associated with Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Gurudwara Sri Hemkund Sahib Ji is one of the most revered Sikh shrines, drawing thousands of pilgrims every year. It is recorded in the holy Granth Sahib that the tenth guru of Sikhs, Guru Govind Singh, meditated by the serene banks of Hemkund lake in one of his earlier births. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, the gurudwara’s picturesque natural settings and trek routes, including the one to the Valley of Flowers, make it a popular destination for trekkers and tourists.
