According to media reports, the incident took place around 11:25 pm on Saturday night when the police stopped Naeem’s CNG auto under ‘Lankan Bazar Flyover’ and started asking for documents from the driver. Narrating her ordeal, Naeem Hasan said that I told the police that if needed, they could check my bag. But he directly grabbed me by the throat and said sit in the car. When I asked him why he was holding my throat, he pushed me away. After this they put me in the car, beat me and also abused me.

Nayeem further said that he also informed the policemen that he is a national cricketer of Bangladesh and represents the country in test matches. But initially the policemen did not listen to them. Later, when some officers received calls and got concrete information about Naeem’s identity, the attitude of the policemen changed and he was released.

Bangladesh Cricket Board expressed deep concern

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed strong objection to this entire matter. BCB has said in its official statement that the board strongly condemns this inappropriate and unacceptable behavior towards the player. Such behavior towards a national athlete is quite worrying and needs immediate attention. The board has demanded a fair and complete investigation into this matter so that strict action can be taken against the culprits. Along with this, BCB is in constant touch with Naeem and his family and has assured them of all possible help.

On the other hand, after this matter gained momentum, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Aamirul Islam has assured the media that the matter is being investigated seriously. He said that the police department has a zero tolerance policy for such behavior as it directly affects the image of the police. Whoever is found guilty will be given strict punishment and cricketer Nayeem Hasan will get complete justice.
