A son killed his 84-year-old father over a property dispute in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The attack took place after the court granted possession of the property to the father, in which the sister was also injured. The accused has been arrested.
Mumbai: A surprising case came to light in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar of Maharashtra on Thursday. Here an 84 year old man was allegedly murdered by his own son with a sharp weapon. This incident happened at the same time when the authorities had handed over the possession of a disputed property to the old man on the orders of the court. Police later arrested the accused son Abdul Rehman Patel.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that Abdul Rehman Patel, a pharmacist, attacked his father Zafar Kamruddin Patel with a sharp weapon after he lost possession of the property following a court order,” crime branch inspector Gajanan Kalyankar said.
The victim’s daughter, who was trying to save her father, was also seriously injured in this attack. Police said that he is undergoing treatment. According to Satara Police Station Inspector Krishna Shinde, the process of property handover was done in a completely legal manner. He said, “The court had directed that the property be handed over to Zafar Patel. SDM office officials along with the police completed the entire process and handed over the possession.”
After completing all the formalities, the officers and policemen came out of the house. Moments later, Zafar Patel reportedly went back into the house to check that everything was properly secured. Police said that then Abdul Patel attacked them with a sharp weapon. When his sister ran to save her father, it is alleged that she was also attacked.
The policemen posted nearby ran back towards the spot. However, by the time they arrived, the accused had reportedly absconded. Both the injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Doctors later declared Zafar Patel dead during treatment, while his daughter is undergoing treatment. A senior police officer confirmed that Abdul Patel was arrested later the same day. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police Commissioner Praveen Pawar visited both the hospital and the crime scene.
